Abstract

This study aims to explore university students’ attitudes, specifically regarding the perceive usefulness of QuillBot, an AI based paraphrasing and writing tool, in enhancing their academic writing. Conducted at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of UNISKA, this research employed a descriptive quantitative approach using a structured questionnaire distributed to 47 students. The study focused on four main areas: the usefulness of QuillBot in academic writing, grammar improvement, spelling correction, and vocabulary enhancement. The findings reveal that students generally perceive QuillBot as helpful in improving their writing, including sentence clarity, grammar accuracy, spelling correction, and vocabulary development. Across all four indicators writing usage, grammar improvement, spelling improvement, and vocabulary enhancement QuillBot was positively regarded, especially for its ease of use and role in increasing writing confidence. While QuillBot is seen as a useful aid, its pedagogical potential can be strengthened through critical engagement, user training, and integration into writing instruction. The study highlights the need for critical engagement with AI tools to maximize their educational benefits while maintaining academic integrity.
