Abstract
Reading comprehension as one of the language competency in English considered being important. Through reading, the students will be easier to add and get the new information from any kind of text. The reading comprehension activity is also expected to make reading as the students’ habit and make the student able to understand the text meaning and represent what they have read in their own language. In the other words, the teaching of reading comprehension must enable the students to be independent reader as the purpose of teaching itself. ‘The aim of the research is to find out the answer of the four statements of the problems. Those are; (1) How is the reading comprehension of the tenth grade
students of experimental class at MAN 4 Kediri after being taught by using Two Stay Two Stray?. (2) How is the reading comprehension of the tenth grade students of contro] class at MAN 4 Kediri without using Two Stay Two Stray?, (3) Is there any significant diferrence of the reading comprehension of the tenth grade students of experimental and control class at MAN 4 Kediri?, (4) Is Two Stay Two Stray effective to be used in teaching reading comprehension for tenth grade students of MAN 4 Kediri?. Quantitative static group comparison design of pre-experimental design was used the approach to design this research. The subject of the study is the tenth grade students of MAN 4 Kediri Badas. The subject were X-IIK as the treatment class and X-IBB as the control class, which each class consist of 34 students. This research used test and where take one class taught by using two stay two stray technique. To get the data, this research used post-test only for both class. After getting result of score at treatment class and control class the data was counted by using SPSS to find out the effectiveness of two stay two stray technique. It is used to find out whether there is significant difference in the treatment class after being taught by two stay two stray technique. The mean score of the students reading comprehension in experimental class is 81.06 and it means the score in very good category. Meanwhile, for control class, the score is in good category and has mean score 71.88. independent-sample t-test with an alpha level of 0.05 was used to investigate the significant difference between both groups. The analysis revealed that the experimental class outperformed the control class in reading comprehension with t = 2.028, df= 66, P = .005 and 95% confidence interval ranging from .143 to 18.210. The result of t-test shows that the mean difference is 9.176 with sig. (2 tailed) value 0.047. The value indicates that there is significant difference between expermental class and control class. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of Two Stay Two Stray is effective. After finding the result, it can be concluded that Two Stay Two Stray give positive effects or advantages in language teaching especially for reading comprehension. So, it is really recommended for the teachers who want to improve their students’ reading comprehension to use Two Stay Two Stray Technique in their teaching leaming process.
