Abstract
English is the primary language of several countries and a second language in a number of multilingual countries. It is learned around the world by leamers in school as a foreign language and often becomes a common denominator between people of different nationalities when they meet while the people are traveling, doing business, or in the other context. English in the school or course is devided by two those are General English and English for Spesific Purpose. General English aims to achieve a high standard of everyday English communication skills. Meanwhile an ESP is therefore built on an assessment of purposes and needs and the functions for which English is required. ESP is very powerful itself and effective for every fields of life. ESP regard as a field in which the leamers can overcome their learning problems remaining in the specific area of their needs. According to Dudley- Evans & John (1998, p.1): Nowadays, ESP has been shifted from modals to general ELT still it has reserved its focus on the practicalities of the results. ESP is always been concer with the needs analysis so with the help of knowing the needs we can see and also enhance the ability of the learners so that they can communicate effectively in their work and study with the help of defined task. It means that ESP is used by the people who wants to work but they need English for communication. One of the place that teach about ESP is Let’s Talk English Cruise (LTE Cruise). LTE Cruise is different from the other courses because it gives the special lessons for working preparation on the ship and in the hotel such as Maritime or Hotel Vocabulary, Marlins Test, Job Interview etc. This research has three focuses that consist (1) the preparation of teaching Marlins Test Preparation at LTE Cruise, (2) the implementation of teaching Marlins Test Preparation at LTE Cruise, (3) the teacher’s evaluation of teaching Marlins Test Preparation at LTE Cruise. The methodology used in this thesis was descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this study was the manager of LTE Cruise; and also the teacher in Regular program. The research was conducted in ten meetings in five classes. First in teaching process and the second in the evalution. The data collection methods were observation, interview, and documentation. To collect the data the researcher used observation guide, interview guide, and documentation. Therefore, the data was displayed, reduce and verified based on the result of the research. The research resulted (1) the preparation of teaching Marlins Test Preparation are syllabus, lesson plan, materials, media and method. (2) the implementation of teaching Marlins Test Preparation was different from every tutor, they do the teaching process without lesson plan but they are used to doing it so they can teach well according to the class they handle (3) evaluation used on teaching Marlins Test Preparation is almost same as formal education. The evaluation was given orally and written which was given after material, The tutors often give mini test as formative evaluation and examination in the last meeting as summative evaluation. The tutors should have syllabus and lesson plan for teaching well.
