Abstract

Learning English by using YouTube will get a lot of benefits, learn the proper pronunciation of a word in a foreign language and make the material more quickly understandable. In this case, the writer tried to know the effectiveness of using YouTube Video in teaching speaking. The formulation of the research problems are: 1) how is the student's speaking achievements before being taught by using YouTube video? 2) how is the student's speaking achievements after being taught by using YouTube video? 3) Is there any significant difference skill of the students before being taught by using YouTube video and after being taught by using YouTube video? 4) Is teaching speaking by using YouTube in the teaching of the First grade at SMAN 1 Grogol effective? The purpose of the study are to: 1) To describe the students' speaking achievements in SMAN 1 Grogol before being taught by using YouTube video 2) To describe the students' speaking achievements in SMAN 1 Grogol after being taught by using YouTube video 3) To describe whether there is significant difference of the speaking achievements before and after being taught by using YouTube 4) To describe the effectiveness of teaching speaking using YouTube video in teaching of the first grade students at SMAN 1 Grogol. The research used quantitative approach as the research design. The technique was pre-experimental design, and the method of collecting data by pre- test and post-test. The population of this study was all students of SMA Negeri 1 Grogol. The sample was X IIS 1 class consist of 36 students. In this research study the speaking test served in research instrument. The research findings show some indicators, those are; 1) the mean score of post-test (M = 77,22) is higher than pre-test (M = 68.89). The result is shown that using YouTube Video can be interest and good media in learning process of students to studying speaking achievements. So, YouTube video is effective to teach for the first-grade students' of SMA Negeri 1 Grogol Kediri. In simple conclusion, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative (Ha) hypothesis is accepted. It was concluded that video YouTube is effective media to improve the students' speaking achievements, especially at the first grade of SMA Negeri 1 Grogol.
