Abstract

Writing is one of four language skills are given emphasis in second language learning. In writing, almost all students have difficulties in understanding content, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation. It is necessary for the teacher to apply various strategies to make students interested in writing learning process. Writing will be an interested activity if the teacher selects creative strategy in learning process. Related to the strategy of teaching writing especially in hortatory exposition text, the researcher applies Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Strategy to the Eleventh Grade Students' at MAN 4 Kediri. (CIRC) Strategy is one of strategy which is able to improve students' writing skill. The objectives of this research are (1) To describe how students' writing hortatory exposition text before taught by using CIRC strategy of eleventh grade at MAN 4 Kediri, (2) To describe how students' writing hortatory exposition text after taught by using CIRC strategy of eleventh grade at MAN 4 Kediri, (3) To find out whether there is any significance between students' writing hortatory exposition text before and after being taught by using CIRC strategy of eleventh grade at MAN 4 Kediri, (4) To find out whether teaching writing hortatory text by using CIRC strategy of eleventh grade at MAN 4 Kediri effective. In this research, the design used is quantitative design and the method is one-shot case study. The subject of the research is students of XI science program class 4 which consists of 34 students. The data are collected from pre-test and post-test. After getting the result of pre-test and post test, t-test has been gotten by using SPSS. It is used to find out the significant difference between students' writing hortatory exposition text by using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Strategy. The statistical of analysis shows that the result of t-test is 6.603. The degree of freedom is 66, while the critical value on the degree of freedom 66 with 1% significant level is 2,65 and 5% is 2.00. So, from the explanation, there is a significant of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Strategy in Teaching Writing of Hortatory Exposition Text of the Eleventh Grade Students' at MAN 4 Kediri in Academic Year 2018/2019. In simple conclusion, Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Strategy is effective in teaching writing of hortatory exposition text
