Abstract

Non-formal education is the education which is organized by the citizen who need education services and serve as substitute, enhancement and complement of formal education in order to support long life education. Non formal education here is a course. One of well-known English Course in Indonesia is Kampung Inggris Pare-Kediri. The phenomenon of Kampung Inggris is in Pare Kediri East Java lately. Kampung Inggris is well-known in Indonesia even in some parts of the world. Here, Kampung Inggris started by one great English Course namely Basic English Course. But now, there are so many courses are built in Pare Kampung Inggris. One of them is Happy English Course 2. A good figures is as a good younger who had graduated thousands students until now. Vocabulary is one of the materials studied by students of all level of formal school and nonformal school. there are two kinds of vocabulary, namely active vocabulary and passive vocabulary. Puppet is a wonderful toy that can be controlled by an operator and can teach kids and adult, all kinds of things. This research has four focuses that consist (1) the students' mastery in vocabulary before being taught using puppet media, (2) the students' mastery in vocabulary after being taught using puppet media, (3) the significant difference of the students' skill in vocabulary mastery before and after being taught by using puppet media, (4) the effectiveness of puppet media to improve the students' skill in vocabulary mastery. The methodology used in this case was quantitative design research. The subject of this study was the students of holiday program at HEC 2, for periode 2 in 2 weeks duration class. The research was conducted in ten meetings. The data collecting method were pre-test, treatment and post-test. Therfore, the data was calculated and verified by using SPSS. The result of puppet media gives positive effects or advantages in language teaching especially for vocabulary. So, puppet media is effective to use in teaching vocabulary mastery.
