Abstract
Most of the students have difficulties to reach their comprehension when read the text. This research intended to: (1) Analyze how the students' reading achievement in experimental class, (2) Analyze how the students' reading achievement in control class, (3) Analyze whether there is any significant difference of students' reading achievement between the experimental and the control class, and (4) Analyze whether EDMODO is effective or not to be used in teaching reading at the seventh grade of MTsN 2 Kediri. Quantitative was selected as a research approach, whereas the research design used was posttest-only control group design. This research used two classes which became experimental group (VII-C) and control group (VII-D). Experimental group was taught by using EDMODO, whereas the control group was taught without EDMODO. Reading test was used to collect the data. The data were analyzed by using t-test. It was used to determine whether or not there was a significant difference between students' reading achievement in experimental group and in control group. The mean score of the students' reading achievement in experimental class belongs to very good category. Its score is 82.78. The mean score of the students' reading achievement in control class belongs to good category. Its score is 76.85. Independent-samples t-test with an alpha level of 0.05 was used to investigate the significant difference between both classes. The analysis revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control class in reading achievement with t = 3.135, df = 52, P = .003 and 95% confidence interval ranging from 2.200 to 10.022.752, and (5) The result of t-test shows the mean difference is 6.111 with sig. (2-tailed) value .003. The value indicates that the significant difference between two classes is found. Thus, it can be concluded that EDMODO in teaching and learning of English reading descriptive text. After finding the result, it is recommended for; (1) the teacher, it is one of alternative media to teach reading since it gives the students benefit and interesting activities. (2) the students, become a student don't be afraid to make mistakes, more practice and focus, (3) next writer, it can be used as an additional reference for similar research with different variables or different population and can be perfected in the content and result by the further writers.
