Abstract

This study focused on improving students’ writing achievement at tenth grade of MIPA 4 MAN 3 Kediri. Some problems relate to students’ writing achievement are found that students seemed not enthusiastic, did not pay attention to the teacher instructions, were not brave to ask a question or explanation from the teacher when they found the difficulties or problems in writing, could not develop the idea in writing, could not construct a coherent and cohesive paragraph, grammatical errors, and they were not interested in English writing class. Most of students got 66 in writing while the standard competence in MAN 3 Kediri was 75. Based on the statement above, the researcher tried to increase the students’ writing skill by using picture series. The design of study is classroom action research (CAR) which the researcher was assisted by a collaborator in conducting the research. The procedure of the research consists of four main steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. To collect the data, the researcher does observation, test, and discussion of observation. The subject of this research is the tenth grade students of MAN 3 Kediri in the academic year of 2016/2017 through picture series. This study was action research that was conducted in two cycles. The first cycle consisted of two meetings while the second cycle consisted of two meetings. The subjects of the research were 39 students of X MIPA 4 of MAN 3 Kediri. The purpose of this research is to improve students’ writing achievement on Narrative text. Those are (1) Teacher can increase the strategy of teaching and quality of students’ writing achievement of narrative text, (2) All students can get the lesson clearly and completely.
