Abstract
English learners should understand about English grammar correctly. According to Close (1992: 1) “English grammar is first and foremost a matter offact. It shows that English grammar is very important in the use of English. Therefore, English Grammar must be taught to every English learner, including young learners at Elementary level. In teaching young learners is not like teaching adults, children have their own way of learning. Studying structure is one of the problems for children who study English. Sometimes they feel difficult and bored learning it, but in other hand, structureis an important element in mastering English language. In addition, structure is the main capital and important to be taught, so teachers must try to find other alternative techniques of teaching English to make children interested inEnglish lesson. Since children like to playand have fun, the learning and teaching process should be suited with the nature of thechildren themselves.One of the forms of fun activities for children is through songs, the common form of music that children know. Using songs in the teaching of grammar in language classrooms is said to have many advantages. For instance,they entertain and relax the learners while they are learning or practicing a structure. The purposes of this research are (1) to describe how the background of song as media in teaching grammar in Star Fun Class at The Star English Course , (2)to describe how the implementation of using song in teaching grammar for Star Fun Class at The Star English Course, (3)to describe how the teaching proccess of using song in teaching grammar for Star Fun Class at The Star English Course, (4) to describe how the evaluation of using song in teaching grammar for Star Fun Class at The Star English Course. In this research, it used a descriptive qualitative research design. Data gotten from the research were described qualitatively. This approach was used because the datacollected were about forms and words. Therefore, the researcher would be easier to analyze the data. The focuses of this research were the background of songs as media aisuermns grammar at The Star English Course (reason, purpose, and usage), the implementation of teaching grammar by using songs(the preparation, implementation, and steps of teaching), and the evaluation of teaching grammar by using songs(the evaluation program, assessors, and assessing factors). Subjects in this research are thestudents’ parent, the teachers, and the director of The Star English Course. The subjects chosen because they are the ones to whom the researcher can obtain the information about everything related to the process of it. In this case, the students observed were students of Star Fun Class. There were 20 students. The result of research shows that (1) of using songs in teaching grammar at The Star English Course is to develop students’ understanding grammar, train students” mental in learning English, and develop students’ talents through songs. (2) using songs in teaching grammar is focusing on the students or learmers, student-centered-leaming. Teachers play role as a guide, facilitator, and motivator. Besides that, using songs in teaching grammar gives employment opportunities, increasing confidence, education benefits for other courses, improving communicative skills, and lesser anxiety and fear when face grammar.. The researcher found several results as part in process of teaching grammar. They are (a) teacher's preparation of teaching peocess which implements several aidful medias such as module, attendance list of students, additional discussion of teachers before entering class, video of teaching process, (b) implementation of teaching process which consists of three main steps : Starting program, Presentation, Greeting, Introducing new material, Conclusion, Clossing, and (c) evaluation of using songs in teaching grammar is focusing on the students’ learning process (grammatical). The teachers play role in this assessment. The criteria include understanding grammar, encourage to us English, confidace, and enjoy in learning process. (3) The evaluation of using songs in teaching grammar is employed in teaching prosess is divided into two parts. Those are daily evaluation and weekly evaluation. Daily evaluation and weekly evaluation are held to make teachers focus on assesment of teaching process in every day class and scoring in every week. The evaluation of teaching process absolutely includes the preparation, students’ understanding, students’ attendance and students’s score.
