Abstract

Speaking skill is needed by the students for communication in the target language. It is very important to master speaking well by implementing the experience of learning the language in the real life. To practice the speaking skill is not easy. Because many students get some problems to do it, the teachers feel difficult to teach speaking skill. The researcher hopes that the result of research is useful for english reader in general, especially for english teacher and school staff of “MAN 2 Kota Kediri” to improve students’ speaking skill. The research is conducted to find whether role play effectiveness to improve speaking skill. The aims of this research are: (1)To describe the students’ control class ability in teaching speaking skill by using non role play of Tenth grade students at MAN 2 Kota Kediri. (2)To describe the students’ treatment class ability by using role play in teaching speaking of Tenth grade students at MAN 2 Kota Kediri (3)To describe the the any significant differences of the students’ speaking skill use role play and non role play between control class and treatment class of Tenth grade studets at MAN 2 Kota Kediri.(4)To describe the role play method effective to improve the student’s teaching speaking skill of Tenth grade students at MAN 2 Kota Kediri. The design of research was quantitative experimental design as the method used to effectiveness of role play method to improve students’ and their speaking skill. Then, the population of the research is all students of tenth grade of “MAN 2 Kota Kediri”. The samples needed to represent them are 79 students. The collect data of the speaking skill, the researcher uses oral test. The result describes the procedure of teaching speaking using role play and the process of learning clearly. the lesson plan this research taught 70 minutes every meeting, for group treatment class and not control class the material about character in the Role play. This dictation practice give in six times meeting and the step of teaching learning process for six days, (1) Introducing the material (compliments) to the students (2) Giving example expressions compliments.(3) Asking the students to pair with their seatmate.(4)Asking the students to share about the expression compliments.(5)Asking the students to perform in front of class (6)Giving conclusion of their performance.(7) evaluation the material.the experimental class the researcher uses SPSS. the result of all calculation, it was found that t-test value was higher than t-table in significant level 1% and 5%. It means that teaching speaking by using Role play method for the tenth grade of MAN 2 Kota Kediri was effectiveness.it was known that t value of control class was 28,239; degree of freedom was 37 and mean difference of the variable was 14,553 and the last was about 95% confidence interval of the difference, the lower value was 13,51 and the upper value was 15,60. Meanwhile, the Treatment class showed that the t value was 25,431, the degree of freedom was 40 and mean difference variable was 14,707 and the last was about 95% confidence interval of the difference, the lower was 13,54 and the upper value was 15,88.From the result based on calculation of t-test, it is known that t-test result is 26.24 and the significant level 1% in degree of freedom 40 (df= 41-1) is 2.82 and 5% is 2.70. it means that t-test (26.24) is higher than the critical value (2.82) and (2.07). Based on the finding research teaching speaking by using Role play for the tenth grade students at MAN 2 Kota Kediri is effective. It is proven by the mean of treatment class 14,71 is higher than control class 14.55. then, there is increasing score between treatment class and control class.
