Abstract
Reading comprchension is the comprehension of the students to be able to understand what they read of the task to take information , and add their knowledge. But mostly English students have difficulty in understand the task of english language. The diificulty in reading is found among the students of in SMA Negeri 4 Kediri. This fact appeared based on the observation for about a month in the school, and then interview about the problem of teaching reading with the teacher and students of X-7. From the interview result, the researcher finds that the students of X-7 are still low in reading English especially in descriptive text. Based on the statement above, the researcher tried to increase the students’ reading comprehension by using Make A Match method The objectives of this study, those are (1) to describe how using Make A Match technique improves students’ Reading comprehension of descriptive text at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Kediri in academic year 2015/2016, (2) to describe the improvement of students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Kediri in academic year 2015/2016 is. The design of study is collaborative classroom action research (CAR) which the researcher was assisted by a collaborator in conducting the research. The subject of this research is class X-7 of SMA Negeri | Kediri. Total numbers of students in X-7 is 32 students. The procedure of the research consists of four main steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This research needs two cycles; every cycle consists of three meetings. To collect the data, the researcher does interview, observation, questionnaire, test, and discussion. The research findings indicated that the students are active and motivated during the teaching learning process. The students’ reading comprehension improves after being implemented Make A Match technique. The technique of data analysis is testing every student. The steps of Make A Match technique in reading descriptive text in every cycle, such as: (1) researcher divides the students into gropus of two, (2) the teacher preparing the media used for Make A Match Technique , (3) giving the taxt of the paper to the students, (4) giving the students card, consist of question and answer card, (5) every student get one card that consist of question and answer _, (6) every student think approprite question card oh hold, (7) every student lookig for the correct question and answer, (8) every student who can match the card correctly in limted time will et score, (9) if the student can match the card with their freind, will get punnisment, to find the matching question and answer, (10) after first round the card is mateched again in order to every student get the different card like before. And go on in fourt around, (11) the teacher abd student make conclusion about the material that have learned. . The improvement is shown by increasing the percentage of the students’ reading comprehension by using Make A Match technique in reading test. The criterion of success of this research is the students’ reading comprehension with the percentage of 75% students got score 75 or more than 75. Based on the result of students’ reading comprehension after being implemented Make A Match technique is improved, because in cycle 1 was 12,5 % of subject who classified into a success with the the average was 69.37 and in cycle 2 was 87,5% of subject who classified into a success with the the average was 80.15. Based on the result of CAR above, the researcher assumes that Make A Match technique improves the students’ reading comprehension of desciptive text especially in the tenth grade students of X-7of SMA Negeri 1 Kediri. After seeing the result, it is recommended for the students to be active in learning reading process. For the English teacher should give various activities in teaching reading, this will make students more enthusiastic and motivated in learning reading. For the readers did the better same research. Beside that it teaching learning process when he or she becomes an English teacher in the future, and for further researcher hopefully this reserach can be an example of simple technique in teaching reading, but it can make students easy and confident to improve their reading comprehension in essay text in Senior High School especially descriptive text.
