Abstract

English has four skills, one of them is writing. Writing is one of the most difficult lesson for students. Many students have diffuclty in writing ideas in english. Based on the fact in MTs N Pare some students of VII-G still got difficulty in writing descriptive text. The researcher found these problem during Praktek Pengalaman Lapangan (PPL) and the instrument used to find out the problem are by interview, questioner, observation. From the interview result the researcher has found that the students have different background in writing english text, especially descriptive text. They are still difficult to use pronoun and simple present correctly. Based on statement above, the researcher tried to increase the students’ writing skill by using direct method to give them strong and good fundamental structure in writing descriptive text. The objectives of this study, those are (1) Teacher can improve and increase the strategy in teaching writing quality in descriptive text., (2)The Students can get easyness in writing descriptive text., (3) the improvement of students skill in writing descriptive text by reaching the target of minimum mastery creteria. Those objectives of study comes from background of study that the students had less understanding about pronoun and simple present which are the sou; of descriptive text,so the researcher tried to find fast and natural way to solve the problems then direct method decided to use direct method which has been prooven since 19th century. The design of study is collaborative classroom action research (CAR) which the researcher was assisted by a collaborator in conducting the research. The subject in this research was Seventh grade (VII) in Class VII-Gof MTs Negeri in academic year 2015/2016. Total students in this class were 34 that consist of 14 males and 20 females.The procedure of the research consists of four main steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This research used one cycle consist of three meetings. To collect the data, the researcher does interview, observation, field note, test, and discussion.
The research findings indicated that the main problem of this research is that they need to have good basic about the using pronoun and simple present in writing descriptive text. The students’ writing skillhave good improvement after being toughtby using direct method. So, every students has good and strong basic stucture in writing descriptive text in the right way. The steps of direct method technique in writing descriptive text, such as: (1) Explaining the purpose of study and preparing students to learn, (2) Demonstrating the knowledge or skill. (3) Guiding during practicing or training. (4) Checking their understanding by giving them feed back (5) giving students chance to continue what they know by implementing it. The improvement is shown by increasing the percentage of the students’ writing skill by using direct method in writing test. The criterion of success of this research is the students’ wiiting skill with the percentage of 97,0 % students got score more than 78. With the average score 87,35 .Based on the result of students’ writing skill after being implemented direct method is improved, because the students who get success are more than students who got unsuccess. Based on the result of CAR above, the researcher assumes that direct method can improve the students’ writing skill of descriptive text especially in the seventh grade students of VII-G of MTs Negeri Pare. After knowing the result, it is recommended for the students to be more active in learning writing process. For the English teacher should be creativer in giving various activities especiallt in teaching writing. It will make students more corious and high motivated in learning english.
