Abstract

Writing skill is one of difficult skill that must be mastered by the students. the students have many difficulties in writing. Students are more often learning by writing. Some of problem faced by the students in writing are (1) students did not have strategy in learning process of writing(2) Students lack vocabulary (3) Students are low learners, less motivation(4) Grammar is not taught deductively in the classroom(5) the students did not have idea to write description. To solve the problem, the researcher use a mind mapping in teaching learning activity to improve the students writing skill. The research design of the study is Classroom Action Research (CAR). In this research there are two cycle that done by the researcher. In every cycle there are three meetings. The researcher uses some instrument those are: test, observation, Field note and interviews. The test is taken from daily exercise score of students. The observations in this research to observe the students activity and teacher activity which used by observation checklist and the observations is observed by the collaborator in the class. Interview is done by asking the English teacher about students’ activity and achievement before and after taught writing by using Mind Mapping. The result of every cycle will get improvement. The Steps of Mind Mapping Technique: 1. Brainstorming material of Descriptive Text 2.Explaining Grammatical Pattern as Guide to write description 3.Explaining Mind Mapping Technique, 4.Doing the task Description Text by using Mind Mapping, 5. evaluation 6. Giving score and Conclude the Material. The result of this research are taken from students daily score and students activity, which in every cycle are improve because if there is some failure must be corrected in next cycle where the result in this research in cycle | students activity 60%. While in the cycle 2 the students’ activities get 78 %. It means there is improvement in cycle | to the cycle 2. The result of students’ daily score also has improvement where in cycle 1 the average score of students is 66 and in cycle 2 the average score of students is 78. This is also means that there is improvement in students score in cycle 1 to the cycle 2. It is recommended of research for the teacher to use the Mind Mapping to improve the students’ writng achievement especially in writing descriptive text. For the students the Mind mapping can help the students easily to write description, for the next researcher hope this research as reference.
