Abstract

Speaking is one of the most difficult aspects of language learning for the teacher to help the students in teaching learning process. Then, the teacher should be creative in choosing media in order to the students are interested in speaking learning. Because of this, spoof text is one of media that can make the students more confidence and active in teching learning. The aim of study is to improve students’ speaking skill by using public speaking at the eleventh grade XI IPA 1 students of MAN Krecek Pare Kediri: 1) To know the “public speaking” to improve students’ activities in speaking skill at eleventh grade XI IPA 1 of MAN Krecek Pare Kediri. 2)To know whether or not “Public speaking” to improve students’ achievement in speaking skill at eleventh grade XI IPA 1 of MAN Krecek Pare Kediri. 3) All students have good mental to speak English by using “public speaking”. 4) The students can master the lesson “spoof text” by using “public speaking”. The subjects of this study were consisted of 33 students. The method used Classroom Action Research (CAR). This study was conducted following Kemmis& Taggart in Kasbolah&Sukaryana,2001 model with the following procedures of the action research: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The study was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of two meetings. The methods used in collecting data were test, observation, interview The result of the study showed that there was improvement of students’ activity in speaking skill. Most of the students could get good scores at the end of each cycle. The students’ average score in preliminary study was 65, 30. The average score in the first cycle was 73,21. The average score in the second cycle was 79, 64. In addition, there was a positive response from the English teacher about implementing the action. In conclusion Public Speaking could improve students’ speaking skill. After seeing the result, it is recommended to.the English teacher to use interesting method as public speaking in improving speaking. Because of public speaking is an alternative strategy in improving speaking. Then, by using public speaking, students can be more confident to speak in front of audience, because public speaking will make them good mental to perform in front of the class.
