Abstract
Writing is one of communication which is used in daily life. It is important like speaking skill. It is difficult to apply in English teaching, so the students get problems to start doing writing task or make a sentence of English. They are Learning and Training Process of writing in the class are running monotonously without using media, The strategy of teaching in each class is not effective enough, The total of students is over, The students there have bad vocabulary mastery, The students have a difficulty in writing using a right grammar, The students have low intuition in increasing an idea, and The English writing achievement of student is bad. This case is a problem for teacher either. Based on the problems, the research is conducted to answer the statement of problem “How is the application to teach writing through picture series in order to increase a student’s achievement and how can the teaching writing using picture series improve a positive value to increase a student’s writing skill”. The objective of study is explaining about the way to solve the problems. The method of solving problems in this classroom research is teaching writing through picture series. It is hoped that this method can increase a student’s writing skill at SMPN 1 Semen Kediri. Research Setting used by writer is classroom action research. The research is consisted of two cycles. Each cycle consists for three meetings. The subject of research was 7E SMPN | Semen Kediri in the academic year of 2015/2016. The research was conducted on April, 04" 2016 till 25" 2016. In this research, the researcher used two criteria of success for a standard of success. The first criterion that was less than 75% in average score was failed. The second criterion that was more than 75% in average score was success. The finding showed that the serial picture as instructional media made the teacher and students more creative, effective, attractive, and easy to understand. And the most important was that it could help students to improve their writing skill ability. It could stimulate and share their idea in writing text especially in procedure text. The result of student’s activity in cycle 1 was 64,21 % and the result of writing score in first cycle was 14 or 70%. The result of student’s activity in second cycle was 83.15% and the result of writing score average in second cycle was 77. It meant that the teaching of writing by using picture series was success.
