Abstract
Writing is often considered as the most difficult and boring activity among the four language skills in English, Students need to learn English writing because it is a process of expressing idea, opinion, experience and information in the form of written language. In the fact, it is real that writing is one of skill that is difficult. The diificully in writing is found among the students of in SMA Negeri 4 Kediri especially XI IPA 2. This fact appeared based on Praktik Pengalaman Lapangan (PPL) experience and then interview about the problem of teaching writing with the teacher and students of XI IPA 2. The students still got some difficulties when they were asked to write English text, especially hortatory exposition text which is one of the genre text taught. From the interview result, the researcher finds that the students of XI IPA 2 are still low in writing English. Based on the statement above, the researcher tried to increase the students’ writing skill by using Think Pair Share method. The objectives of this siudy, those are (1) Teacher can increase the strategy of teaching and quality of students’ writing skill of Hortatory Exposition text., (2) Students is easy to develop their ideas., (3) All students can get the lesson clearly and completely. The design of study is collaborative classroom action research (CAR) which the researcher was assisted by a collaborator in conducting the research. The subject in this research was eleventh grade (XI) in class XI IPA 2 of SMAN 4 Kediri in academic year 2015/2016. Total students in this class was 31 that consisted of 9 males and 22 females. The procedure of the research consists of four main steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This research needs two cycles; every cycle consists of two meetings. To collect the data, the researcher does interview, observation, test, and discussion. The research findings indicated that the students writing achievement at eleventh grade (XJ) in class XI IPA 2 has improved. The strategy to improve are (1) giving them the issues or question., (2) asking the students to think the answer individually., (3) asking the students to write down their ideas (answering the issues) and make a point of answers., (4) asking the students to pair with their partners and discuss about their answers. (5) asking the students to write what they have been discussed and make them on paragraph every sentences. (6) asking the students to make supporting sentence every their point ideas. (7) calling some group to deliver or share what they have been discussed with their partners in front of class. (8) asking the other group to respond and give commend according their friends’ ideas., (9) asking the students to write individually that all of material that have been discussed in hortatory exposition text. ‘he implementation of teaching writing by using ‘Think Pair Share Technique can improve teaching learning process activity which in the cycle 1 there was 64,09 % and in cycle 2 was 81,29 %.The improvement is shown by increasing the percentage of the students’ writing skill by using think pair share technique in writing test. The criterion of success of this research is the students’ writing skill with the percentage of 80% students got score more than 76. Based on the result of students’ writing skill afler being implemented think pair share technique is improved, because in cycle | was 32,2% of subject who classified into a success with the the average was 65,00 and in cycle 2 was 83,8% of subject who classified
inlo a success with the the average was 79,03. Based on the result of CAR above, the researcher assumes that think pair share technique improves the students’ writing skill of hortatory exposition text especially in the eleventh grade students of XI IPA 2 of SMA Negeri 4 Kediri in academic year 2015/2016. After seeing the result, it is recommended for the students to be active in learning writing process. For the English teacher should give various activities in teaching writing, this will make students more enthusiastic and motivated in learning writing.
