Abstract

Speaking is one of the productive skill in English. In teaching and learning speaking process, teachers have to involve the students to be more active to speak up through communicative speaking activities. Storytelling is teaching technique that fosters creative thinking and it provokes the imagination to retell a story that may help students to think about new ideas and to build self-confidence. The research aims to find out the students’ speaking ability by using storytelling technique. The researcher conducted the study in Language Center. The researcher applied qualitative research and use observation and interview as the instrument to collect the data. The subjects of the research are an English teacher and the students of the Mastery program. The researcher used a purposive sampling technique method and took only one class which consisted of 25 students. Based on the findings of the observation checklist and interviews, the students give the positive response on the implementation of storytelling technique. The students are more interested and motivated in learning to improve their speaking skill. Futhermore, the students are able to increase their vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar.
