Abstract
Communication in a foreign language enriches life by broadening horizons, encouraging intercultural dialogue, and fostering global peace and cooperation. It is important to focus on basic language skills such as grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation to teach students to communicate effectively in a foreign language. However, students often face various obstacles that can hinder the learning process when studying grammar. To overcome this problem, the researcher suggests using the direct method in teaching grammar. This study used a quantitative approach and conducted statistical analysis, including pre-tests and post-tests, to compare the performance of the experimental and control groups. The results showed that the final test result of the control class was 52.48, and the final test result of the experimental class was 69.32. This means that students taught through the direct method achieved higher than those taught through the conventional method. The results were also supported by the results of the independent t-test which reached 0.001 which means less than 0.05 as its peak. These findings underline the direct method can improve students' grammar proficiency.
