Abstract

ELSA Speak is an artificial intelligence (AI) application that detects voices and provides native-like pronunciation correction. This study used a mixed method to determine students' perceptions of the ELSA Speak application. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires, while qualitative data were obtained from semi-structured interviews. This study's results indicate that students responded positively to using the ELSA Speak application to learn pronunciation. In this study, the three main features mentioned by students as helping in learning pronunciation were the word syllable stress feature, the dialogue feature, and feedback feature. These features were considered effective in helping students improve their English pronunciation. This study indicates that ELSA Speak can be a valuable tool in learning English pronunciation, supported by AI technology, to provide an
interactive learning experience that is close to how native speakers pronounce.
