Abstract
TGT is a type of cooperative learning that places students in study groups consisting of 5 to 6 students who have different abilities, gender, syllables or race. difficult problem. As we know, English is one of the important skills in the world of education and the world of work. Many of the job opportunities on offer require a wide range of skills. However, unfortunately, often our school and university graduates do not have good enough English to get jobs offered by both government and non-government agencies that assist Indonesia's rehabilitation and reconstruction program. This fact was also proven by the many former students of the writer who came to report to the writer that they had difficulty finding a job because they did not speak English well, even including former students who got good results in written exams. a person's English ability is also influenced by the learning method used, because the learning method has a great influence on student learning outcomes.
This study aims to find out how students' speaking results can be improved by the influence of Teams game tournaments. To design this study, selected quantitative research with a one shot case study model. There are three cycles in this study. He; pretest, three treatments, and posttest. The subjects of this study were students of the Language Center as an experimental class. In one class there are 18 students.
To obtain the data, a speaking test was used. During the teaching and learning process with the team games tournament method students are more active and enthusiastic. They have a good will in following the speaking class. The results of the analysis show that students' speaking achievement increases by using the team game tournament method. During the pre-test, only 1 student scored > 75 (Score minimum). However, after being given treatment, there were 17 students in the class who scored > 75, there was a significant increase of 75% between the pre-test and post-test. So it can be concluded that the team game tournament method is effective for learning to speak. Lastly, it is suggested to use team game tournaments as an alternative strategy for teaching speaking.
